REPUBLICAN GENOCIDE
REPUBLICAN GENOCIDE. Hitler took down 6 million people but the republicans are going for 30 million working class Americans who are suffering without Health Care. As long as the republicans have their spray on tans, starched collars, perfect benefit packages, big houses and Tea Party cruises why should they worry about the unemployed they created under Bush? Republicans under Bush could afford two wars, billions of dollars for military contracts, tax cuts for the rich and business/banking deals without regulations. Now the republicans and the insurance companies turn the guns on us, the voters. The U.S. can afford Health Care. It is the insurance companies, not the government that have gotten too big. As the clock ticks republicans want to debate caps on lawsuits (Tort reform) while Americans have tumors growing, conditions worsening and prescriptions unfilled. Everyone should be very suspicious about any democrat who doesn't vote for Health Care (my guess an insurance company donation fixed that). Fight back, speak up and support Health Care for all. If you think it’s too expensive wait until you see what happens without it. Marty@CoffeeForDC.com

A Cup of Coffee for President Obama
Cheers! President Obama gets a cup of coffee for doing a great job presenting the Health Care plan. Better late than never but in the process he showed great style, manners, poise under pressure and the best of worst of all the politicians around the table. I have nothing against republicans that show up with a logical argument, which I have to think about but I’m exhausted with Mitch McConnells, John McCanes and John Boehners who show with memorized “talking points”. It really dates them to the Bush years and puts them out of step with what America is looking for in today’s lawmakers. At the end of the day the Republicans were unmoved that 30 million people suffer without insurance and are one illness or accident away from a ruined life. As long as we can fight cave people in foreign countries we can afford Health Care for all Americans.

CNN did a poor job letting us get the real story
I watched the debate all day as the President held an informitive open meeting with Democrats and Republicans over issues with Health Care. CNN interrupted with their interpretation of things and frankly I could do my own thinking. The lawmakers were right there and speaking well on the points they had to make. Wolf and his crew actually thought they had more important interpretations to offer while other speakers were still at the mic. The only way to hear it all and understand what led to what was to watch it all on your computer. Wolf Blitzer was really in the way.

To Hume: Freedom of Religion is a Costitutional Right
Fox News continually oversteps boundaries and fails to stick to the news, which they don’t report anyway. Commentator “Brit Hume has publicly called for Tiger Woods to convert to Christianity to find forgiveness and redemption following his sex scandal. And even after Tiger's apology — in which he reaffirmed his Buddhist faith —Hume still thinks Christianity is the best path for him”. This is America, Hume, where we are free to practice any religion we want. To make this fair Tiger should ‘publicly call for Hume to become a Buddhist.
It’s none of Hume’s business what Woods does in his private life to heal his marriage. There all sorts of definitions of Buddhism and whether it is a religion or a philosophy of life Woods is doing what is best for him. In all the explanations of Buddhism there is a code of morality, a meaning of life, a desire to improve one’s situation, cultivation or life by doing good deeds and purification of mind from mental impurities. Buddhism does not generally involve worship of a supernatural entity but there is an acceptance of a higher power. If all this is good enough for AA why is not good enough for Hume?

Dodd to Introduce Constitutional Amendment to Reverse Campaign Finance Ruling
February 4, 2010
Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) announced today that he will be introducing a constitutional amendment in the coming days to reverse the Supreme Court’s recent decision in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission. The decision overturned 100 years of precedents to come to the unjustified conclusion that corporations deserve the same free speech protections as individual Americans.
“Money is not speech,” said Dodd. “Corporations are not people. And in the wake of one of the most radical decisions in the Supreme Court’s history of campaign finance jurisprudence, a constitutional amendment is necessary to fully restore the trust and voice of the American people. If corporations – foreign as well as domestic – are allowed even greater and more direct influence over our elections, our democracy as we know it will cease to exist. I won’t stand for that. I urge my colleagues, and the American people, to join me in defense of democracy by supporting this amendment and other interim steps to mitigate the damage done by this decision.”
Dodd’s proposed amendment would authorize Congress to regulate the raising and spending of money for state and federal political campaigns, and to implement and enforce the amendment through appropriate legislation.

Coffee for Senator Chris Dodd for restrictions on TARP recipients
February 5, 2009
Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, today praised Senate approval of his amendment to apply further executive compensation restrictions to all TARP recipients, and to empower the Treasury Secretary to tighten existing provisions of the law to “claw back” any bonus or compensation paid to an executive based on false earnings reports or anything else later found to be materially inaccurate or misrepresentative of that company’s financial status.

Shelby Releases Hold On Obama Nominees
from The Full Feed from HuffingtonPost.com by The Huffington Post News Editors
WASHINGTON — Republican Sen. Richard Shelby of Alabama has released the "holds" he had placed on every one of President Barack Obama's nominees, his office said Monday.
"The purpose of placing numerous holds was to get the White House's attention on two issues that are critical to our national security – the Air Force's aerial refueling tanker acquisition and the FBI's Terrorist Device Analytical Center," Shelby spokesman Jonathan Graffeo said in a statement released to news organizations Monday night.
Shelby wants the tanker and the new FBI explosives center to be built in Alabama. Senators frequently block individual appointments, but Shelby's blanket hold was unusual.
Now that he has gotten Obama's attention, Graffeo said, "Sen. Shelby has decided to release his holds on all but a few nominees directly related to the Air Force tanker acquisition."
White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said Friday, "If you needed one example of what's wrong with this town, it might be that one senator can hold up 70 qualified individuals to make government better because he didn't get his earmarks."
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said last week that Shelby's move was holding up about 70 appointments, including a critical top Defense Department position overseeing deployments to the war in Afghanistan.
A senior member of the Appropriations Committee, Shelby has built his career on steering spending "earmarks" to Alabama.
Shelby can't single-handedly defeat Obama's nominations. But by forcing time-consuming votes on each one, he can delay them indefinitely.More on Barack Obama

Sen. Franken Asks For Our Help In Opposing NBC/Comcast Merger
Sen. Franken Asks For Our Help In Opposing NBC/Comcast Merger
from Crooks and Liars by Susie Madrak
I'm so glad that Sen. Al Franken is standing up against this merger. This is a bad move for democracy in so many ways, and he's pulling out all the stops to mobilize supporters. He sent out this email yesterday:
You might have seen in the news, on Twitter, or on Facebook recently that I'm opposing the NBC/Comcast merger in its current form. I wanted to write you today to explain why, and to ask for your help.
I have some experience in this industry, and I flat-out don't trust Comcast and NBC to operate in the best interest of consumers in Minnesota and around the country when it comes to this merger. Combining a company who provides programming and one who provides the pipes that carry said programming would almost certainly be a raw deal for consumers and independent content producers alike.

2/5/10 Barney Frank calls John Fund a "liar" and a "coward" and explains how the Right Wing Noise Machine operates..
Feb 5, 2010 (5 days ago)Barney Frank calls John Fund a 'liar' and a 'coward' and explains how the Right Wing Noise machine operates.
Barney Frank took the gloves off on the floor and called John Fund out for making up a story about a phony bill and then he outlined how the right wing noise machine works as a propaganda arm of the republicans to push that narrative into the mainstream.
Frank: You are entirely wrong about me and in the absence of your being able to show any basis which you made such a statement to ask you to acknowledge that fact. He's not only a liar, he's a coward. He wouldn't do it. My staff member asked him, called him up and said, what was this based on? Well, I made a mistake. Well, have you made a retraction? Oh, yeah, he said. Can we see it? "I told a couple of people." Mr. Fund makes it up. It's a lie, it's a myth. There was nothing there and it's to discredit all democrats.
His right-wing cohorts echo it and echo it. The next thing is it will be on the floor in the next two weeks. This is the democrat disregard for the electoral process. And when we call Mr. Fund's attention to the fact that this was a lie, what does he say? Whoops. but he's not going to tell anybody about it. Mr. Speaker, this is not the only case of this and I know this has happened before. But because I was directly involved here, I was in position to document this. It begins with a lie from this editorial writer from "the Wall street journal." it is then a lie repeated by his right-ring colleagues. He refuses to do anything about.
It doesn't get any clearer than that. Frank posted the entire story on the web.
Frank responded to fabricated accounts of his supposed plans to introduce a bill on “universal voter registration.” The story began in November at the conservative Restoration Weekend conference in Palm Beach, Florida, where for $1,700 per person activists were able to hear talks by conservative opinion leaders on the theme, “Defending our Country and Culture.” At one session, John Fund, a writer for the editorial pages of the Wall Street Journal, claimed that Congressman Barney Frank and Senator Chuck Schumer had hatched a plan to game the election system by registering felons, illegal aliens and others to vote:
Democrats were very rattled by the November 3rd election results. What do liberals do when they lose elections? They change the rules. In January, Chuck Schumer and Barney Frank will propose universal voter registration.
What is universal voter registration? It means all of the state laws on elections will be overridden by a federal mandate. The feds will tell the states, “Take everyone on every list of welfare recipients you have, take everyone on every list of unemployed you have, take everyone on every list of property owners, take everyone on every list of driver’s license holders, and register them to vote regardless of whether they want to be.”
The allegation against Congressman Frank is absolutely false and has no basis in reality. The Congressman in fact heard about it for the first time after the story was launched in the conservative media.
On January 5th, Glenn Beck of Fox News, which like the Wall Street Journal is owned by Rupert Murdoch, repeated the same fallacious story, specifically citing John Fund as his source. The next day, Rush Limbaugh retold the story on nationwide radio, also quoting Fund. On January 7th, the Washington Times, owned by Reverend Sun Yung Moon’s Unification Church, ran an editorial titled “Letting Crooks and Illegals Vote.” None of the outlets called Frank’s office to verify the story.
In addition, right-wing web sites have also posted the story online, often embedding video of Mr. Fund’s talk, giving the fictitious story an even longer life-span.
Congressman Frank addressed a letter to John Fund on January 13th, asking the writer to either corroborate or publicly repudiate his statement. When called by a staffer who was seeking a fax number for Mr. Fund, Fund claimed that he had issued a retraction. When asked for a copy of the retraction, he stated that he had not actually issued a written correction, but that he had simply told a few inquiring bloggers that he had made a mistake. To date, Mr. Fund has still not issued a public retraction.
Fund's idea of a retraction was to tell a few people. The Wall Street Journal should suspend him from their pages if they had any real integrity. Fund did his job well. Promote a lie and then watch it take off because he knows that once the story is out there---then it's out there.
